Additional Anecdotal Archive of August's Adventures (or mundane happenings?)

My eye was caught by these fine beasts, the carving is enhanced by the careful selection of the timber for it's grain and colour.
The straw causes the cleaner's a daily head ache as kids will play.....
This little shopping development is a part of Chiang Mai that is trying to develop a pavement cafe vibe, and has a met with a measure of success.
We really enjoyed an iced coffee when we were "nicking off" on Pest Control Day.
I tried to get pictures of the guys doing the spraying, but every time I went near they stopped! They generate billowing clouds of an insecticide mist that is supposed to keep termites from demolishing our nice wooden buildings; a feat they can achieve in no time, apparently!
Joan is sporting the famous bag, but nice as the coffee was, it can't match Turner's in Barrowford for the ambiance.
Our main task on our excursion was to by a new water cooler, one of ours was starting to hand out electric shocks free with every glass......

The subsidiary task was to mind 2 tortoises that belong to the children of some of guests! They really enjoyed the trip to Home Pro!

One the wildlife front we are starting to look  forward to visits coming up from friends and family.
Joan's Sister and Brother in Law are coming out soon and hopefully their birding skills will help us to get to grips with the natives that fill the grounds of the Juniper Tree with the kind of sounds you might associate with a Tarzan film.
This fellow was enjoying the results of a recent down-pour that washed many bugs and worms up out of the usually hard soil.

Heading towards my favorite destination, the tropical fish shop, we encountered one of those peculiar events that you don't think can be what it seems to be, until you get close! These workmen were erecting this huge concrete post by swinging it up on a sling off their small crane. The weight of the post must be way over the lifting limit on the crane, and it was swinging freely over three lanes of fast moving traffic, with no warning lights, signs or barriers! Presumably they've done it before?
One of our guests was looking for someone to join her on a trip to the elephants. Everyone else staying had either just been or wasn't interested. Joan didn't need much persuasion to join in! Below are a few pictures of the day out. You can see who seems to enjoy getting near to them most!

And finally a short video clip of the new fish in my marine aquarium enjoying some fresh spinach for the first time!!
